IIMA is the leading management institute in India- ranked first in India by several organizations including the Indian Government and ranked 31st in the world by the Financial Times. It offers various programmes in management. The institute is spread over a green 100- acre campus, including a central complex that is one of the landmark creations of Louis Kahn. The campus is home to about 1500 students, about 100 faculty members working in various management areas and sectors, staff, and executive education participants. It also plays host to a range of flora and fauna.

Research constitutes an integral part of the academic activity of the institute. The institute library houses nearly 200,000 books and several newspapers. It has a large number of e-resources, company and country databases, e-journals, books and research support tools/databases. The institute funds research projects and case-writing, which over the years has led to a rich repository of monographs, technical notes, cases, and journal articles. The last academic year saw the publication of 7 books, 29 book chapters, and 134 journal articles.

IIMA has a two-year General Management MBA, two-year Food and Agribusiness MBA, one-year Executive MBA, and Executive development programmes, and a Fellow Programme in Management (equivalent to a PhD). To develop academic and cultural interaction the institute has created a double degree programme at the postgraduate level with ESSEC, University of Bocconi, HEC School of Management, European Business School, University of Cologne, and ESCP-Europe Business School. It also has a one-term exchange programme which provides international exposure to the students.

Beside these notable programs and collaborations, the institute gives back to the field of management by running a faculty development programme specially designed for management faculty of other institutes. Several executive programmes are conducted by the institute for training private-sector companies and government departments. Along with the case center (a collaborative venture with Harvard Business School Publishing), several other interdisciplinary centers and groups are being administered at the institute.
