Ahmedabad has been featured on TIME magazine’s list of World’s Greatest Places of 2022.
Ahmedabad is a 600 years old city and was recently conferred with the Heritage City status by UNESCO. It is the commercial capital of the state of Gujarat. Ahmedabad is situated in the western part of India, about 300 miles north of Mumbai, and about 600 miles southwest of New Delhi. Ahmedabad is also not far away from various wildlife sanctuaries, the largest salt desert in the world (which is especially popular as a tourist destination between November and March) and beaches.

The vibrant city of Ahmedabad with its rich cultural, religious, and architectural history was founded by the Mughal king Ahmed Shah. Ahmedabad is well-known for being the city where Mahatma Gandhi resided from 1917 to 1930. Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad stands witness to this and has a museum which portrays the history of India’s freedom movement.
The city is known for its architectural delights, food markets, handlooms and handicrafts. The city has various important architectural structures ranging from the Sarkhej Roja mosque and Adalaj step-well from the 15th century to 21st century academic buildings, Indian Institute of Management and Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, built by noted architects like Louis Kahn and B V Doshi.
There are 27 Museums across the city which narrates its culture and heritage. Two of these – the Kite Museum and the Karnavati Atit ni Jhanki – are housed in Sanskar Kendra, a building designed by the internationally renowned French Architect, Le Corbusier.
In the domain of academia, besides IIMA, Ahmedabad is known for several world class academic and research institutions in the field of management, science, design and textiles, including the Indian Institute of Technology, National Institute of Design and Institute of Rural Management, Anand.
