1st International Research Conference on Pension (IRCP 2025)

Ensuring financial security in retirement is a fundamental component of safeguarding income and providing stability for individuals in their later years. As global populations age and life expectancies rise, the imperative for effective pension systems has never been more pressing. These systems are essential not only for old age income security and consumption smoothing but also for mitigating longevity risk, especially in an era where old age dependency ratios are increasing globally.

In this context, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) and the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) are organizing the 1st International Research Conference on Pension (IRCP) at New Delhi on 27th and 28th of February 2025. This conference serves as a crucial platform for addressing the dynamic and evolving global landscape of pension systems. The discussions will span economic, environmental, and social challenges, reflecting the diverse experiences and strategies from around the world.

IRCP 2025 aims to bring together scholars, practitioners, and industry experts from across the globe to engage in meaningful dialogue, share ground breaking research findings, and explore innovative solutions. The conference will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, and research presentations that will provide insights into various aspects of pension management, investment strategies, regulatory frameworks, and social security systems.

About PFRDA

Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) is a statutory body established to oversee and regulate the pension sector in the country. Interim PFRDA was established by Government of India in 2003. Subsequently, PFRDA Act, 2013, empowered PFRDA to promote old age income security by establishing, developing and regulating pension funds and to protect the interests of subscribers to schemes of pension funds.

PFRDA regulates the National Pension System (NPS), a defined contribution retirement scheme which is mandatory for Central Government employees joining services after 1st January 2004 and has been adopted by almost all the State Government for their employees. NPS is also open to all citizens, including those employed in the private and unorganized sectors.

In addition to NPS, PFRDA is administering the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), a government guaranteed pension scheme aimed at creating a universal social security system for all Indians especially the poor, the under-privileged and the workers in the unorganized sector.

PFRDA has significantly contributed to old age income security and socio-economic development by ensuring orderly growth and development of the pension sector. PFRDA’s efficient regulation and supervision of pension sector has established it as one of the credible regulators in the financial sector in India.
